Overview
TabVault is a Chrome extension designed to help you manage and organize your browser tabs. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data when you use our extension.
Data Collection
TabVault stores your tab groups locally on your device by default. When you enable cloud sync:
- We store your tab groups on Google Firebase servers
- We use Google Authentication to identify your account
- We collect tab URLs, titles, and favicons for saved tab groups
- No personal browsing data is collected beyond saved tab groups
- No browsing history or activity tracking is performed
Data Usage
Your data is used solely to:
- Provide tab management functionality
- Sync your data across devices (when cloud sync is enabled)
- Backup and restore your saved tabs
- Display your saved tab groups in the extension interface
Data Storage
TabVault uses two storage methods:
- Local Storage: Data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API
- Cloud Storage (Optional): When enabled, data is securely stored on Google Firebase servers
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your data with third parties. Your data is:
- Stored securely on Google Firebase (when sync enabled)
- Only accessible by you through your Google account
- Not used for advertising or marketing purposes
- Not shared with any external services beyond Google Firebase for sync functionality
Data Security
We implement security measures to protect your data:
- All cloud data is stored using Google Firebase's secure infrastructure
- Authentication is handled through Google's secure OAuth system
- Data transmission is encrypted using HTTPS
- Access to your data requires authentication through your Google account
Data Control
You have full control over your data:
- Export your data at any time through the extension settings
- Delete all data from the extension using the clear data option
- Disable cloud sync to keep data local only
- Revoke access to your Google account at any time
Permissions
TabVault requests the following Chrome permissions:
- tabs: To access and manage your browser tabs
- storage: To save your tab groups locally
- activeTab: To interact with the currently active tab
Third-Party Services
TabVault integrates with:
- Google Firebase: For optional cloud sync and authentication
- Google Authentication: For secure user login when using cloud features
Data Retention
Your data is retained:
- Locally until you clear it or uninstall the extension
- In the cloud until you delete it or revoke access to your Google account
- We do not automatically delete your data
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
- Notify users of significant changes through the extension
